De la mano de Rory Lambert, socio fundador de Martin + Tissera + Lambert, nos llegó la invitación de crear conjuntamente los contenidos de la octava y última sección de la exposición, dedicada al aspecto lúdico de este fenómeno. Desarrollada entre Rory Lambert y boolab, la propuesta consistió en plantear una reflexión sobre las capas de realidad que se pueden solapar en nuestra vida cotidiana, y para ello, se crearon ocho piezas de realidad aumentada que el visitante solo puede descubrir a través de la pantalla de su smartphone o tableta, acercándose a los marcadores correspondientes repartidos en la sala vacía. Cada pieza constituye un pequeño juego que permite al público experimentar con la realidad aumentada. Según el marcador al que se dirige, puede interactuar con un extintor quemándose, una cámara de vigilancia convirtiéndose en una ametralladora o un bebé saliendo de un cuadro, entre otros. Al final, son ocho guiños irónicos invitando a la reflexión, que pudimos desarrollar gracias a la colaboración de String, empresa londinense que nos cedió las licencias de realidad aumentada. La exposición estará abierta hasta el 28 de mayo de 2012 y, a continuación, viajará a San Sebastián y México.

De perfil creativo muy versátil, Lucas trabaja con todo tipo de formatos (publicidad, broadcast, instalaciones interactivas) y se maneja con soltura en diferentes técnicas de animación, pero destaca el gran dominio que tiene del lenguaje del stop motion, muy cercano a los mejores estándares del género a nivel internacional. Por su trayectoria y su fuerte arraigo creativo a la ciudad de New York, por otra parte, tiene un mundo de referencias e influencias que nos resulta particularmente atractivo en boolab. Éstos son algunos de sus varios méritos que nos llevaron a iniciar conversaciones con él hace unos meses, que hoy se concretan con la representación exclusiva de Lucas por boolab en el mercado europeo. Juan Delcan currently lives and works in New York, but his real hometown is Madrid. There is where he studied architecture and started his career as a graphic designer and illustrator. In 1985, he began to collaborate with the videogames company Opera Soft (the game ‘The Abbey of Crime’ is nowadays still a benchmark in Spain, 20 years after its creation, in 1987). After a brief period in K-2000, in 1988 he became creative director in the production house Ostra Delta (Madrid, Paris), where he worked for seven years. There is where he debuted as a filmmaker, directing numerous projects for Spanish, French and German channels. In 1995 he decided to move to the US, first for a couple of years in Los Angeles, and then New York. As a creative director and filmmaker he worked successively in the production houses Pittard Sullivan, Lee Hunt Associates, V12 and Spontaneous, eventually participating in the launching of Nola Pictures in 2005. In recent years, he directed pieces for brands such as Carolina Herrera, Puma, NBC, AT&T, Herbal Essences, Gran Via, Jet Blue and Samsung.

Drawing a parallel, imm Sound would be for audio what the three-dimensionality of the movie ‘Avatar’ was for the image… In other words, this system was created specifically to accompany 3D images. Thus, the viewer is submerged in a sound world in which every effect, every sound and every voice is emitted from a predetermined point in space by algorithms, making a film session into an unprecedented immersive experience. The system does not only use the perimeter of the room (surround) but also the roof and the vertical axis, that way creating a totally enveloping sound net. Did you know that ‘Avatar’ was at the time screened with a classic 5.1 surround sound system? Well, just imagine it now with the imm Sound System…

Barcelona Media´s audio laboratory took six years to design this system, which was finally registered in March 2010. Since then the imm Sound company was created to commercialize the system, encountering a very favorable market reaction. At this moment, the system is already installed in ten movie theatres, four of them distributed through Spain and six in Brazil, without counting the two theatres being installed in Germany and Italy. And the immediate prospect is the development in other European countries and the United States.

This piece is boolab’s premier in the field of stereoscopy, thus opening a whole new realm of experimentation for the production house. Author and creator of the piece in all its aspects, Espaun256 (a.k.a Tomás Peña) joins boolab’s team of directors, with exclusive international representation. Essentially self-taught, Tomas comes from graphic design and has already dedicated several of his 25 years to direction and animation. He took his first steps in Spain in Zinkia Entertainment (Pocoyo) and Wysiwig before emigrating to Los Angeles where he worked in Buck for two years as an animator and designer. Once back in Spain in 2008, Oink Digital represented him as a director, until he joined the ranks of boolab in late 2010.
