This is the new brand campaign for Barbie in Spain, and its production has meant a great challenge, not only for what involves in shooting with 6 to 11 year-old girls, but also in terms of postproduction. Portraying an imaginary journey of a group of six friends through the worlds associated to the famous doll’s universe, shooting all the scenes with a chrome backdrop, to then incorporate all the stages and sets, generated exclusively in 3D. Shifting the traditional communication style of the brand, the campaign steps away from the toys world and opts for a more modern and casual Barbie. Commissioned by Bassat Ogilvy advertising agency, the piece was directed by Joan Vallverdú, with Espaun256 as the postproduction director. There are 30″ and 60″ versions, and the campaign is on air since last Monday, October 3rd.
boolab revisits the pink world of Barbie with an ambitious 3D production
October 23rd, 2011Jorge Cosmen breaks the mold for corporate videos with Agbar
October 23rd, 2011This project came to us from La Doma agency, consisting of creating a corporate video for the company Agbar (Aguas de Barcelona, one of Spain’s water suppliers), mainly for internal use. After a long and extensive investigation process, in close cooperation with the agency and the client, this 2′40″ piece was created, in which the narrative link is water, serving as a metaphor to evoke the different pillars of strength of the company, such as internationality, business diversification and technology innovation. The entire creative process was led by director Jorge Cosmen. To achieve the desired effect in terms of texture and fluidity of water, we chose to use 3D, working with different specialized software in fluids simulation, like Real Flow, Maya Fluid and XSI Lagoa. boolab also shot the images of the facilities and the workers later projected on the water. The result is a corporate video that breaks drastically with the traditional codes of the genre, relying on a much more conceptual, graphic and sophisticated approach.

October 23rd, 2011He has been in this business for 20 years now, successively as a designer, illustrator, videogame creator, creative director in audiovisual production houses, live-action filmmaker and director of animation and motion graphics. Throughout his long career he has combined directing for TV ads with the creation of ID´s and broadcast pieces for TV channels in Europe and the United States, also always finding time to direct short films and documentaries, on various occasions collaborating with the music band U2 (visuals and graphics for the Vertigo Tour, the U2 3D movie and the Grammy Awards Ceremony) and also exhibiting his own paintings and engravings. Prolific, versatile and hungry are the words that best define Juan Delcan. And brilliant, of course, as demonstrated by his long list of awards harvested throughout the years in the most prestigious festivals in the world like Cannes, New York Festival, London International Advertising and Design Awards, AIGA, BDA Awards, Telly Awards, Siggraph and Monitor Awards, among others. Juan Delcan currently lives and works in New York, but his real hometown is Madrid. There is where he studied architecture and started his career as a graphic designer and illustrator. In 1985, he began to collaborate with the videogames company Opera Soft (the game ‘The Abbey of Crime’ is nowadays still a benchmark in Spain, 20 years after its creation, in 1987). After a brief period in K-2000, in 1988 he became creative director in the production house Ostra Delta (Madrid, Paris), where he worked for seven years. There is where he debuted as a filmmaker, directing numerous projects for Spanish, French and German channels. In 1995 he decided to move to the US, first for a couple of years in Los Angeles, and then New York. As a creative director and filmmaker he worked successively in the production houses Pittard Sullivan, Lee Hunt Associates, V12 and Spontaneous, eventually participating in the launching of Nola Pictures in 2005. In recent years, he directed pieces for brands such as Carolina Herrera, Puma, NBC, AT&T, Herbal Essences, Gran Via, Jet Blue and Samsung.
